There’s such a devastating loneliness that comes from seeing yourself for the first time through media, and then walking back outside into the world, craving some sort of commodified designed acceptance that we inherently know we’ll never reach. But it won’t stop us from trying, that’s for sure. Truly a singular and boundary-defining work, if you give this 3.5 stars or lower I can’t trust you anymore.
In what might be the funniest turn of fate for this movie, my AMC started playing American Fiction instead of this and took 10 minutes to fix it. Even better, multiple people responded with “no, I’m pretty sure this is the right movie” at first
