This has a small problem with pace and editing, but it was still pretty good. Romcoms are back!

My wife informed me that some people aren’t happy about how the ending supposedly differs from the book. I’ve never read it, don’t really know what the differences are, and don’t care. I just know if you’re going to have your leads break up twice, and then still tack on a “Five Years Later” to your ending, you need to trim the fat in the middle and lose a montage.

In spite of some filler that bloats the run time, there’s real heat and chemistry between the Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, mostly because Hathaway is an incredible actress and massive movie star.

I hate hypocrisy, and this film addresses a gender specific type of hypocrisy that I wish it had the confidence to explore further.

There is a clear formula to this, but it’s a mostly a good formula.

There are also some highly purposeful choices with the lighting and color splashes that lead me to believe the book has more depth to it, but that’s the case with every book that’s ever been adapted to film.

I just know this movie checks all the boxes you need this type of movie to check.
