The Idea of You

The Idea of You ★★★★

Anne could hit me with the August Moon private jet, and I would say thank you. ❤️

A man purposely choosing to divorce THE Anne Hathaway after cheating and lying to her is all the proof I need that some men are truly incompetent. Because what were you thinking? HELLO?! Do you have EYES?! Do you see the PIZZAZZ?!?!  Please….

I personally like to imagine Harold Styles himself watching this and being so thrilled that a made-up version of him gets to be with Anne Hathaway. He should feel #blessed to be associated with the Princess of Genovia™️and Queenie of my Heart™️.

Anne is SUCH a girl’s girl for making this masterpiece. 🤩 She knew what needed to be done and served a full course meal in the process. Forget ate…she devoured. No crumbs left behind. I want to be her best friend SO BAD. UGH.

Anyway, needless to say I’d die for Anne Hathaway. Wouldn’t we all? She’s always been such a comfort actor for me. It’s lovely to see her just having fun and creating stories that centralize a woman in her 40s living life to the fullest. Newsflash: life doesn’t end when women turn 30, and I’m glad we’re finally acknowledging that head-on.

This movie is absolutely far from perfect. Low key, if Anne and Nicholas didn’t have the chemistry they did, this would probs be unwatchable. I am aware. While I can acknowledge this truth, I’m also ✨just a girl✨ so I enjoyed this immensely.

A few more random thoughts because this feels like the movie for them:

-Genuinely shocked at how layered this was. While it didn’t go in too deep since it’s “just” a romance, there were a lot of themes packed in here. Just a few: The toxicity of stan culture, the poisonous nature of social media when it goes unchecked, the weird behavior people possess of belittling and putting down others they’ve never even met, the odd idea that someone random knows what’s “right” over people actually involved in the situation, the hypocrisy of men dating women half their age and getting praised while women are slut-shamed and vilified, the inherently evil nature of paparazzi (LET PEOPLE EAT IN PEACE, MY GOD!!!), the ridiculous notion that celebrities “owe” anyone anything because fans made them famous (They’re still humans, peeps), and last but not least the bullshit and blatant “ownership” men believe they have over women (regardless of current status, but let’s be real…women are viewed as perpetual objects regardless even in society. SO HOT AND SEXY SLAY! 🙄) Literally rolled my eyes so hard when the cheating, lying asshole had the AUDACITY to say “my wife” like he’s not the one that chose to leave. Bitch, bye!

Anyway, there’s a lot here. I find it compelling they touched on so much so briefly. Just enough to allude to issues without outright stating them, but I could see some interesting conversations coming from this. (Then again, I’m a talker. What’s new?)

-I really have no right to discuss the age gap because I’m more often than not attracted to people at least 8-10 years older than me….. It’s a personal problem, but low key, these two seemed mature enough to not make it problematic upon watching. 👀 Sound off in the comments if I’ve lost my mind, but Hayes’ overall behavior gave off the energy of a man who was searching for someone who understood him or at least would try to. Solène’s own backstory and residual trust issues acted as a catalyst to get their relationship going because they both were able to show the vulnerability necessary to create a connection. In the end, it was just two people hoping to be understood; I think it’s hard, at any age, to find someone who truly understands you and cares deeply for your well being in the romantic sphere. Didn’t come off as predatory to me, but once again….ya girl may not can see the forest through the trees. (Anything younger than mid-20’s, and we draw the line!)

-That hand placement and urgency in the first kiss sequence? The voice change? Lord have mercy. They did what needed to be done there! Hot tamale! Romance is not dead. Bring 👏🏻 Back 👏🏻 Male 👏🏻 Yearning 👏🏻

-Can someone please put me in contact with Anne’s stylist in this film? I need a wardrobe update! That final red pantsuit?! I DIE!

-Nicholas…can sing?!?! Pop off, sir. I am quite impressed with his talent…also his movie roles so far have just been so unhinged and iconic. I love that for him.

-Kinda shocked at Solène’s obsession with watching the BBC channel. Like…does this channel come with cable? How does one acquire the news from England?

“Did I not warn you? People hate happy women.” They hit the nail on the head with this. God forbid a woman live her best life (rockstar sex with a rockstar band member)🙄

-Fuck, Ollie. All the homies hate Ollie. Actually, all the homies hate all those little assholes in the pool scene. There’s a difference between being genuinely concerned and being a raging asshole joking at other people’s expense, and those motherfuckers couldn’t give two shits in a hand basket about anyone but themselves, including Hayes.

Felt like none of the side charcters really had any point in the whole film. Other than being little jack-offs to create conflict, the band members didn’t matter, her friends didn’t really matter, the daughter kinda did…sorta. Eh. :)

August Moon has the biggest boy band energy of any boy band to ever boy band. One Direction is quaking.

Definitely not a perfect film by any stretch of the imagination, but I had a very fun time watching this! My somewhat high rating automatically should mean any review I ever type again should be completely ignored…and I am fine with that fact.

Anyway: final notes. Anne is so hot and will forever be hot. I will watch her deliver a dramatic reading of a grocery list and be content. Nicholas is also hot, however, stay freshly shaven, king. Little scraggly pube-facial hair is not the move….sorry. Fuck Ollie. Fuck Daniel. I wish my life was a Wattpad story. That’s it.

😩😩😩”Why would you break up with a talented, kind feminist?” 😩😩😩
Asking the real questions here. ❤️
