this was going so good until that bs ending. sugihara continuously repeats that this is a retelling of his "love story" but i wish it was mainly a love story between him and his own identity rather than one between him and his insufferable girlfriend. this movie was really going somewhere with lots of needed and important things to say about an overlooked demographic and then it just crashed into a wall in the last few minutes. i loved the scene where he said his korean name out loud. and the scene of him and his dad at the beach. it felt like all of those moments got silenced but i guess there's still value in them individually.
