Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes ★★★★

It has been way too long since I have seen a Planet of the Apes film. My dad and I bought tickets a week ago to see Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in IMAX today, and I felt that it was a solid film!! I will probably make this a shorter review because I don’t want to spoil this film for y’all!!

To introduce what the main story of this film is, it takes place after a certain someone’s death. It is a spoiler, so I don’t want to tell you guys who died. Most of y’all have seen this, so I know that you guys know about him!! We are introduced to Noah. He is seen with his friends Anaya and Soona. They are climbing around mountains and cliffs scavenging for eagle eggs. The clan that they are in is known as the eagle clan, in which they take care of them. By the way, for the setting of this film, many of the buildings are covered with leaves and most of the humans are gone. An antagonist that we see who rises up in power is Proximus. He is considered as one of the new elders, and wants to use Caesar’s word to help gain control. However, Noa is told by Raka that the law of Caesar is being twisted. This film highlights the character development of Noa and trying to help his clan survive. There are also many parts of this film showing Noa as a true leader, and even putting himself first before his own people.

Also, the visual effects and cinematography of this film are insane. I really loved how abandoned the buildings were due to all of the greenery overlapping it. There are so many shots too which highlight the beauty of this film, the many emotions that are seen on Noa’s face, and a way to bring the story forward. Additionally, the motion capture of the apes in this franchise is still mind boggling to me. Everyone looks so realistic and you could see the immense detail in each ape. I know that I usually talk a lot in my reviews, but this is all I can say for now. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes was a great film, and I cannot wait to rewatch the Planet of the Apes trilogy!! It has been way too long, but I have a great feeling about them!! For anyone who has not seen Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, please watch it on the big screen!! I saw this in IMAX today, and the sound design was insane. I felt almost everything that was happening in the film!!

"Are you familiar with the concept of evolution? In their time, humans were capable of many great things. They could fly, like eagles fly. They could speak across oceans. But now, it is our time... and it is my kingdom. We will learn. Apes will learn. I will learn. And I... will conquer." - Proximus (Kevin Durand)
