The first film in Roger Corman’s Poe cycle is a very enjoyable gothic horror thriller. Although I don’t find it as effective or entertaining as the follow-up, The Pit and the Pendulum, it is still a decent start to the Corman directed adaptations that would yield 8 films from 1960-1964. Thankfully, Mr. Corman had the good fortune to chose Vincent Price as one of his collaborators from the get-go and the rest is history.
