There are certain directors whom I suspect Hollywood will (or would, in Hitchcock's case) let make whatever they want for fear of what will happen if they don't. Clearly, this is one of those projects. Don't get me wrong, it's fantastic, but it seems weirdly out of character for the golden age of Hollywood. I decided to watch this after spending the night in a janky motel with friends and referencing this film endlessly, that was based only on the…

I mean no ill will towards Star Wars or Return of The Jedi, but this is the best film in the entire star wars series. It's the model idea of a sequel, Terminator 2 style, it raises the scale, greatly improves the effects (and even when when they don't look great, they're charmingly mankey), and is just all around more awesome. Some people (me before seeing this film) might think "oh, a Tom Hanks gangster film by DreamWorks? This is probably pretty bland" afterwards, I'd sure hope those people (me after seeing it) were massively impressed. Seriously, this film is amazing. Sure, there's a lot of gangster action that's fantastic but then there's the phenomenal father-son bonding plot that I just adore. The camera work in this is just masterful, especially the hotel bathroom mirror shot. The soundtrack is also amazing…

Romero really is the king of zombie films (except for that fourth one we don't talk about). The concept for this film is so simple, just survivors living in a mall during a zombie apocalypse, but within that there is so much story to be told. The gore is simply fantastic and way ahead of it's time for 1978. Ken Foree is the best pre-80s action hero. This film is seriously great.
