This is my annual "big work project is finished" viewing of Heat. It remains one of my all time favourites. Visceral, slick and chilling. Pacino and De Niro don't miss a beat.

"Cause she's got a GREAT ASS...and you got your head all the way up it! Ferocious, aren't I? When I think of asses, a woman's ass, something comes out of me."

I live in the East of Scotland and can't say I've spent enough time in the West to notice any public fornication on the village greens.

This film rules. You've got some wild musical horror here along with DEGENERCY including teachings of the penis in School!

And you've got some incredible imagery here including the slugs on the first night intercut with the Landlord's Daughter and the bug inside the school desk.

This is a stand out film, with all…

What can be said for exceptionalism like this? Not quite as good as Seven Samurai, but a totally different film involving child kidnap, heroin, murder and…ladies shoes?

The 60's are here in Japan, and I got the message that the days of honour are long gone. In this post-war modern squalor, the shadows fall across faces in this Hitchcock-esque noir. Pop music fills the air and the smell of Suntory whiskey lingers.

Why is the camera so shaky? In the $225 Million budget, they couldn't have paid for one fucking tripod? It feels like we're being buffeted about like a bird feeder in a heavy wind. Even the emotional scenes, the edges of the frame are just bobbing about.

I didn't really like the film and the style. When people mention Snyder, I'll just say that Watchmen is my favourite and underrated.

    The Long Road to War

This really does exemplify that the First World War really was a war because everyone thought it'd be a jolly good idea. I've never heard so many people use the term "Preventative War" - Preventative against what, a different sort of war? These mustached dickheads are literally the Mean Girls of the early 20th century, gossiping about eachother behind the backs of the other "Great Powers". Great documentary.

The camera work is WILD in this. A case study in building tension. Great performances.

I can see why this was picked as some people's film of the year. There's some narrative here around race, and there's also something happening with the show "Friends".

    "The quiet is so noisy."
