    CW: heavy war themes

Only one episode in and I’m already crying like a baby at North No.2.

Nobody does haunted existentialism quite like Naoki Urasawa, and Studio M2 have adapted his co-written Tezuka-inspired crime drama commendably, with only minor issues seen in mixed-quality background CGI featured in the episode’s opening scenes.

Urasawa is a master of expression as exemplified in his best-sellers Monster and 20th Century Boys. The same can be said of Pluto, and the anime successfully captures these nuances…

The directorial debut of AWGIE Award-winning screenwriter Maria Lewis, The House That Hungers is officially my short film rec of the year and an ideal way to spend 13 minutes on a Sunday afternoon.

Kimie Tsukakoshi stars as a young woman trapped inside the titular house, forced to think outside the literal box in order to survive. The Great White actor’s return to the horror genre is triumphant, delivering a cathartic performance that will leave you wanting far, far more…

Top tier alien girl aesthetics do the bulk of the heavy lifting in this jarring yet mostly entertaining relic of its era. Liza Jacqueline is by far the English language standout as lead heroine Kahm, with voice acting legends Sean Schemmel and Dan Green making relatively early career appearances entirely unlike Goku and Yugi.

I’m not big into ecchi so this was never going to be my thing, but if you’ve ever wondered who the demon chick with the rad green mullet is, this is she and the results are fine I guess. Worth it for the character design though not much else.

Not only is this so dull it took me three sittings to get through, apparently it’s also riddled with AI (first report, grain of salt, etc.). Not a good look for an alleged documentary, and not a great start for 2024 true crime!

I relate to the creatures in A Quiet Place because I too want everyone to shut the fuck up.
