    Peeping Tom

    ★★★★★

Peeping Tom is a film of many layers. On the surface, it is a creepy film about voyeurism and exploitation. However, when you unpeel the layers underneath, you may find that the ugliness does not necessarily come from what's on the screen.

For a film made in 1960, Peeping Tom seems modern. After all, we live in a world where we hide ourselves behind masks of many layers, be it in our daily interactions with people, or social media. In…

I must confess that I am not an overly huge fan of movie biopics. I often find them to be self indulgent, overwritten, and/or maudlin affairs. For every great biopic like “My Left Foot” and “Ed Wood”, you have dozens of poor ones like “Amelia” and “Jobs”. Amadeus belongs in the former group. Three Kinds of Heat

Judging by the quality of this film, along with Sylvester McCoy's outfit and limited screen time. I believe he filmed this during breaks between shooting Doctor Who episodes.

One of Michael Bay's very best. Nicolas Cage teams up with Sean Connery to stop a renegade group of soldiers from releasing a poison gas in the atmosphere an killing millions.

The plot is ridiculous and full of plotholes. However it contains Bay's talent for editing, exposition, and exciting action set pieces. Nicolas Cage gets to be Cagey. Connery is also great here, as the mysterious John Mason. Throiw in some supporting characters, including the excellent Ed Harris, David Morse,…

May the 12th Be with You

Corporate backslapping at its worst. It's like Disney were trying to say:

"Hey everyone! It's almost Mother's Day! So let's remind everyone how many franchises have sold out to us!"

    That's it. That's the plot.

    Split

    ★★★★

    M. Night Shyamalan delivers an amazing movie here.

Split could very well have devolved into campy territory in the hands of another director. Instead, Shyamalan treats every one of his characters with respect, unpeeling the layers of their psyche, to unveil the physical and mental carnage that was slowly unleashed upon them over time.

Everybody in this film is a victim in one way or another. It helps to have absolutely fantastic acting, particularly from James McAvoy and Anya Taylor…
