After making a list of 200 favorite horror movies I can pretty much say I've watched A LOT of horror. Even up to the point of not being scared easily anymore.
But every now and then, there comes a horror movie that doesn't need to be scary. And then, just once in a lifetime, comes a movie so conscious of the whole horror genre, that being released on 2011, literally marks the beginning of a new decade for horror. Itβ¦
Apart from one plot point that I didn't like, and one plot hole, this is what I expect from going to the movies.
I got out sweating. My chest, my armpits, my neck, my forehead, everything was soaking wet. I was also tired. I was grunting, squeezing my girlfriend's hand, and pushing myself against the seat the whole last set piece.
I didn't know where time went. The movie finished and I didn't feel dissapointed. I was just awestruck. Andβ¦
Of the Trilogy of Vengeance, this is the one I liked the least. Nothing wrong with it. Just felt a bit more disconnected with its slow pace.
Nevertheless, I understand why it's more contemplative than the other two. This one focuses more on guilt, forgiveness, patience, and the duality of humanity when it comes to feeling compassion for some, and unbearable rage for others.
What's the perfect justice? What's the perfect vengeance? What to do with so much anger? Do we deserve to let it rot us from the inside? Or do we deserve the regret of setting it free to cause pain on the world?
A series of unfortunate events that would make the Baudelaire's blush... or throw up... or get traumatized for life...
Who deserves vengeance? And who deserves what vengeance offers in return?
A painful reminder that not everybody is born to be a parent, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve the love that can be found in otherness.
NEVER, and I repeat, NEVER will the stars align once again to make a movie so absurd, exciting, and moving as this one.
My girlfriend obviously pointed out every plot hole possible, but even she couldn't hold back and succumb to the cutest sight of Godzilla coiled-up sleeping in the Roman Colosseum.
This movie is made to entertain and it achieves that to the maximum. And George Miller once said talking about Fury Road that the aim of that movieβ¦
