Visually gorgeous but kind of a narrative mess. Maybe more meaningful from a German perspective as a cultural and historical chronicle of an era, but the story jumps around and major characters disappear and are later said to have died years earlier. In the end whatever connection I felt with the characters was due to the sheer amount of time spent with them more than actually good storytelling.
Some breathtaking shots and great use of mixing b&w and color scenes. But if you’re going to spend 15+ hours on a German miniseries, watch Berlin Alexanderplatz.
