The Social Network 2010
Rewatching the film for the Oeuvre series on David Fincher’s filmography at Spectrum Culture. It’s the only Fincher I’m writing about, but I’m fucking delighted. More soon, I adore this movie.

Chungking Express 1994
"Actually, really knowing someone doesn't mean anything. People change. A person may like pineapple today and something else tomorrow."
Perfect movie, intimate but not claustrophobic, bittersweet but not sad, funny but not silly, beautiful but not pretty, ultimately, nothing more or less than what life feels like. All I could think of watching this how much an antidote it is to the "one perfect shot-ization" of modern, "indie" movies. There are so many perfect shots in this movie and none…

Inglourious Basterds 2009
“Damn good deal” they said in unison.
Inglorious Basterds is just as cultivating and intelligently brilliant as I remember it to be. From that first moment when the SS boys rock up, all black on the motors through the hills of France, all the way to Aldo’s artistic masterpiece on the forehead of Hans Landa, this movie truly shows Quentin Tarantino at his finest (aside from a cheeky western made about three years after).

The Green Knight 2021
Been meaning to see this for ages, total visual marvel. Marvelling at Dev Patel! That's a beautiful man. Haha, the shots are gorgeous too. Really lovely level of detail in the production design and such, LOVED the costumes especially the Halo Crown. The cinematography was gorgeous obviously I mean that lighting was just absurd!!! So cool, we should adapt more poems into 2 hour epics that just look AMAZING

La Chimera 2023
so transportive into its own strange world of grave diggers but also beautifully melancholy in its observations on dealing with our own pasts. Josh O’ Connor’s grunts throughout this are incredible.
