Kept thinking how much David Byrne looks like Cillian Murphy in Oppenheimer. They should have let Cillian do some of these moves in that. Let him do the bit with the floor lamp. He’s just jogging the whole time. “Until somebody builds a bigger suit.” Stuff like that. Probably would’ve been a better movie. I really just write whatever on this app.
great flick
disregarding their innocence or guilt, this is a group of deeply unserious men being faced with a very serious situation
Black and white cinematography plus deadpan humour will inevitably get early Jim Jarmusch comparisons. However there isn’t a practiced air of “cool” in Fremont. Maybe it all depends on location and characterisation? I loved the central performance by Anaita Wali Zada as Donya. Her sense of reserved quiet, though never aloof or disinterested. This is more intense than any action film, but unlike an action film it makes you want to cry.
“He spoke about 20 different languages, all very badly” I just knew this was be brilliant as soon as I heard that character statement.
“We rarely get to experience art with that kind of ambition here in New Zealand and in this film there are warehouses full of it. Anselm is a remarkable, serious and discerning documentary..”
Genuinely surreal, Hollywood could only dream of making something this terrifying, a must watch. Die Putin 🇺🇦
A fly-on-the-wall documentary that examines misogyny, alcoholism, loneliness and grief in a small Outback town in Western Australia. It’s horrifying to consider what didn’t get captured on camera or what times were like years previous for girls looking to travel and experience a foreign culture. This leaves a terrible imprint on you long after the credits roll.
