Home Grown Horrors - Vinegar Syndrome Blu-ray Trailer

Throughout the 1980s and 90s, independent and first time filmmakers across the United States saw new opportunities to create work in the horror genre. Often integrating the flavor and color of their inner-America locales into their work, they created films that, while inspired by mainstream trends, are about as far from Hollywood as one can get. Collected here are three diverse films, all produced in the late 1980s, providing a fascinating and entertaining glimpse into the forgotten world of Home…

Toni Daniels is an ambitious young journalist working for her college newspaper. Tired of covering the same boring stories as her peers, Toni becomes intrigued by the recent disappearances of several female students and believes that they may be linked to an on-campus murder that happened the previous year during the college's raucous Rush Week. Despite being certain that something terrible has been happening on campus, no one she talks to is willing to admit that the disappearances are cause…

the worst person in the world for unhinged people

Before they moved onto working on mainstream horror/genre films,horror/genre filmmaker Roberta Findlay(LURKERS[1988],PRIME EVIL) and her producing partner Walter E. Sears(BANNED !,BLOOD SISTERS) both produced this Henri Pachard(PUBLIC AFFAIRS,OUTLAW LADIES,BABYLON PINK) directed porn feature that has a recent divorcee(Cody Nicole[UP N' COMING,DIRTY BLONDE,GIRLS ON FIRE]) and various other people having sexual fantasies about people that they walk by and/or come across.

Filmed back-to-back with 1985's CLIMAX !,WET DREAMS has Pachard mightily delivering on the film's sizzling explicit sex scenes that practically…

Writer/director/editor Andrew T. Betzer wears his Terrence Malick influence on his sleeve — much of this moody road picture is shot in the magic hour, and dialogue is used sparingly throughout (there’s barely a word spoken in the first 20 minutes). This portrait of two young brothers fleeing an accidental death tries the patience a bit, but the wandering, episodic narrative has a free-wheeling spirit and a deadpan sense of humor (in its best moments, it recalls Jerry Schatzberg’s great Scarecrow). And I’m still not quite sure what to make of its third-act turn, which is either refreshingly unexpected or just plan bananas.

Cool documentary about Vincent Gallo on vacation in Paris.

One of the truest adaptations of a fairy tale I’ve ever seen. The characters are one dimensional and the intrigue typical. I especially like the fact the dialogue is in rhymed verse.

The cinematography, sets, scenography and costume design are all beautiful to look at and the strongest part of the film. The special effects are charming and the actors are good.

A true fairy tale not only in story but also in form.

Spirits of the Air, Gremlins of the Clouds
is an unusual little Australian indie film about it’s characters’ fixation on building a flying machine in a post-apocalyptic, Mad Max-esquires outback. It’s premise is admittedly a little dull and it doesn’t make for the most engaging watch, but what it lacks in story it kind of makes up for with phenomenal production design and art direction - taking place in…

Edit: I’ve expanded this into a long winding essay about the nature of digression and the meaning of life! Check it out over on Bright Wall/Dark Room

It's telling that I just watched this last night and yet I can't wait to rewatch it again. But I don't want to do it so soon, because I'm really enjoying letting this movie just simmer in my mind. (Also it's three hours long.) It's a Dali or Magritte painting come-to-life, bursting with…
