There's quite a Jarmusch flavour to Jalali's latest. The gorgeous b&w cinematography, highlighting low key, grungy locales, and the detail of small stories, which are the everything of an average life, all underscored with a deadpan poetic lyricism. It's no wonder then that I relax easily into his cinevibe. FREMONT's slighty terse Afghan expat protagonist Donya is fascinating to follow, as is her work setting in a San Francisco fortune cookie factory. And top marks to Gregg…

London film festival 2022, #10/15

Really really loved this. Syrian director Soudade Kaadan with a beautiful film, laced with magical realism. Set in the later part of the war in Syria, it's hopeful and funny but not unserious. an incredibly good way to make a war-set film

“Fremont” is a real gem.

A lovely animated feature film with a very human story (which was written by Haruki Murakami, the author of Norwegian Wood). Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman has a fun magical realism twist to it, and it actually made me wish that I could go on a life-or-death quest with my anthropomorphized frog friend. 🐸
