Building off their revolutionary oil-painting animation technique in their 2017 film “Loving Vincent”, directorial duo DK & Hugh Welchman adapt the Nobel Prize-winning Polish novel with immense craft & precision. Utilizing a team of over 200 painters, the Welchman’s drew inspiration from the great Polish painters of the 19th & 20th centuries in their vivid imagining of the story of Jagna, a young woman beset by the gossip, feuds & patriarchy of her hometown.

Without a doubt the greatest production I saw this year. Directed by the same duo as the unforgettable “Loving Vincent”, “The Peasants” have completely dominated the Polish cinema stage this year.
This film is one of the most incredible compounds of arts, such as film, music, painting, and literature. The story, incredibly resonant with Poles, was based on a novel by Wladyslaw Reymont visualized by the usage of a combination of filming and frame painting.
Unbelievable combination of visual arts,…
This movie caused me so much anxiety. It's a tense, worrying and even revolting story. It's crazy how any small detail can be destructive in any environment we live in, and it's all so simple and real. Leonie Benesch gives a superb performance as the protagonist. Certainly one of the best films of the year.

This would obviously be the case but it’s insane how good this looks. So much feeling in it all. No animated ballot should be submitted without it.
This is such a spectacular film. The story is great, it’s acted very well. The artistic direction just elevates it even more. I wanna go to a cabbage party now
