We rank the films of Yorgos Lanthimos based on a pyramid draft we’ve created — a fun game where co-hosts Cam and Kemari sort through which films are most foundational, most essential, and which may just be filler. Sounds hard, right?

THE FILM CLUB 3000 PODCAST: DOGTOOTH
The animal that threatens us is a "cat". The most dangerous animal there is. It eats meat, children's flesh in particular. After lacerating its victim with its claws, it devours them with sharp teeth. The face and whole body of the victim.
We travel back to Yorgos Lanthimos’ breakout international sensation Dogtooth — possibly the “weird” in question in the “Greek Weird Wave”.
But more than just weird, there is a lot of beauty…
THE FILM CLUB 3000 PODCAST: ALPS
This week we’re dressing up like dead people and re-enacting situations for their loved ones…
Oh wait.
Join us this week as we discuss Yorgos Lanthimos’ film ALPS. Here is a description:
The Alps is a secret society including a nurse, a gym coach, a gymnast and a paramedic. They offer a unique service: the recently bereaved can hire them to act as surrogates for the deceased loved ones-wearing their clothes, adopting their mannerisms,…

So I actually had a piece about this film published professionally, the first time I've had a piece of film writing published professionally.
I can't think of a better way to celebrate Frederic turning 42 this 2024, or my own history with film and all the interests it has proven a gateway to.
Not only that, but after reading my review a couple I know decided to watch it and apparently their infant child was ENTRANCED, which has me feeling all kinds of ways about the circle of life and shit.
There are some very good performances here: Ejiofor & Dano really stand out. Brad Pitt is thankfully not in the movie a ton because that performance and character is very, very poor.
It's always a revelation to find that one of your favorite actors possesses even more versatility than you had initially thought. Denzel within the noir genre is the combination I didn’t know I needed. The gritty, sweat-soaked underbelly of criminal Los Angeles the perfect backdrop for Denzel to deliver one of his most grounded, desperate, and charismatic performances.
Carl Franklin's screenplay is standout, written primarily as an engaging genre film while masterfully generating conflict by centering a story typically dominated…
“All men are brothers because of their music.”
I honestly wish this were 3x longer! The use of Paul Robeson's various “Old Man River” archival performances is an effective narrative tool to illustrate the many intentional lyrical changes alongside shifts in societal dynamics throughout his career.
Robeson stands among the rare few in world history whose incredibly magnetic presence was so profound that even two opposing armies would suspend their gunfire just to experience the captivating power of his singing!…
Helloooo all, and welcome to the Black History Month 3k Challenge!
Join us as we challenge ourselves to expand our film literacy and consume 29 films that encapsulate Black history on film in all of its facets — Black directed, Black starring, and Black produced films that don’t just explore sadness and trauma, but highlight family, love, sex, action, comedy, absurdism, and so much more.
29 films in the 29 days of Black History Month is an insane task, just as insane as the idea that Black History can be contained within a single month. We’re extending the challenge to March 31st so you can try and fit in as many films as you can.
