Powell & Pressburger's most bizarre moments

Part of the enduring majesty of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger's cinema comes from their ability to undercut the prim and proper sensibility of war-time filmmaking with moments that are deeply strange, sometimes even disturbing.

Alfonso Cuarón and Gaspar Noé discuss Gravity

Writer-directors Alfonso Cuarón (Roma, Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) and Gaspar Noé (Enter the Void, Love, Irreversible) talk about Cuarón's 3D sci-fi masterpiece, Gravity, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

Love wins…. In this heartbreaking, eye opening and inspiring documentary. Where you hear both sides of the story.

Vicky and Esme had no right being that hot

Yeah! Julie and Rosalie from the Souvenir films in the milieu of a BBC 'Ghost Story for Christmas' film! Not a pastiche though. Instead, it's very much a Hogg film, the social mores of posh people on holiday, with the humour and strained naturalism she is known for. I was on board for the commentary on the uneasiness of writing from life also (truly placing it as a little Souvenir coda.)
She should've shot on 16mm though, for full 70s BBC vibes.

What do you think?

Oh, I don't know. What do you think?

Glad to see the billing and title card for Louis.

sad and spooky birthdays, real and imagined memories, people, places and spaces. i loved the wintery english landscapes, reminds me of when i went to bath.
this movie made me really sad :(

An exquisite exercise in restrained eerie elegance.

The Eternal Daughter grew and grew on me as I watched, much like The Souvenir did, actually, but this final part of that trilogy - in which Swinton plays both Julie and Rosalind - is a completely different kind of movie to the previous two. Director Joanna Hogg sets up an almost clichéd ghost story complete with haunted house vibes but it turns out to be much more thought-provoking than that.

The plot itself you could write on a Post-It but…

The Eternal Daughter (2022 #JoannaHogg)
An extraordinarily powerful duet exploring the dynamic between a mother & daughter*, time & space, love & regret, memory & storytelling, as well as weaving in tropes of gothic ghost tales.
*Sensational performances by #TildaSwinton.
