'Dahomey' by Mati Diop wins Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival

The 74th edition of the Berlin Film Festival traditionally concluded on Saturday evening with the presentation of the Golden Bear and the Silver Bears. The international jury, chaired by Lupita Nyong, awarded Mati Diop's latest film 'Dahomey' with the Golden Bear. Bruno Dumont's film 'L'Empire' took home the Silver Beer Jury Prize. Both titles will be released by Cinéart in the Benelux this year.

'The Zone of Interest' wins 3 BAFTAs

The BAFTAs (British Academy Film Awards) were presented in London last night. Jonathan Glazer's 'The Zone of Interest' earned 3 of its nominations, competing against films such as 'Oppenheimer', 'Poor Things' and 'Anatomy of a Fall'. The BAFTA for Best Sound, Best Foreign Language Film and Best British Film went to this impressive film that has been widely praised by the press.

'Holly' by Fien Troch in Official Competition of the Venice Film Festival

Belgian filmmaker Fien Troch is back at the Lido with her fifth feature ‘HOLLY’, produced by Prime Time and Mirage in coproduction with Dardenne brothers' Les Film du Fleuve, Tarantula, Topkapi, tabski film and Agat Films. This captivating exploration of the notion of faith tells the moving story of a girl whose cathartic energy seems to bring peace to the people she encounters. Her previous film ‘Home’ (2016) bowed at Venice’s Orizzonti competition, where she won the award for best direction.

5 Oscar nominations!

The Oscar nomination announcements are always an exciting moment. The Cinéart team huddled up to watch the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' live stream together and we were so happy to cheer for our partners and friends who received such nominations.

Winners in Cannes 2022

Cinéart looks back on a very successful Festival de Cannes 2022. Most of our titles were awarded top prizes. Congratulations to all winners!

Patricio Guzmán's My Imaginary Country is something surprising. It finds Guzmán in a joyful mood. After a lifetime making films about dictatorship and evil, he's made something optimistic here. I don't know if I share his optimism, and I don't have the knowledge of Chilean politics to really form a credible opinion, but I support left wing leadership in Latin America and any fight for justice and equality. My Imaginary Country is a personal film, a document of contemporary events…

decision to grieve 😔

Watched this after a really long day in a cozy, dark theatre. Of course, I dozed off (because not even Lynch can battle my talent for falling asleep anytime and anywhere).  When I woke up again, Betty was Diane and Rita was Camilla. Not sure if I was still Mahdieh…

“Tori and Lokita” is the angriest movie the Dardenne brothers have ever made, a distinction that shouldn’t be taken lightly in the context of filmmakers who’ve spent the last three decades carving diamond-sharp moral dramas from the plights of Belgium’s most dispossessed people.

Like most of the duo’s work, “Tori and Lokita” leverages the irreducible nature of human dignity against the ever-worsening apathy of human civilization. Like much of their work — including the Palme d’Or winner “Rosetta” and the…
