A surprising though refreshing choice of subject and focus for a feature film…centered on the fractious yet loving final months of a longtime marriage between two elderly Russian emigrés. So rarely do films focus on the elderly and rarer still on love between them. Sans the obvious humor of Cocoon or the near-existential horror of The Whisperers, Tell Me a Riddle stakes it claim in the middle ground of family drama with a hint of historical intrigue. Lee Grant’s narrative feature directing debut boasts some flair, anchored by two immensely believable, lived-in performances from Oscar winners Kedrova and Douglas.

Directed by Oscar-winning actress Lee Grant, Tell Me A Riddle stars Oscar winner Lila Kedrova and two-time Oscar winner Melvyn Douglas in a poignant portrait of a couple in their twilight years struggling to agree on how they'll live out the rest of their lives.

I checked out this 1986 Oscar winning documentary from Lee Grant about the unemployed and homeless people in the US. This was an HBO film and is only an hour long, but it had a lot to say.
