Michael fucking Mann facts. Might be my favorite movie I’ve ever watched visually. Curtis Tsui said it best - “Mann conceived the film visually as a maze of cityscapes—Hence the film’s distinctive style: the lights reflected on the hood of Frank’s car and the frames that cut off the tops of buildings almost give the impression that the world of the movie has a ceiling of night.”

John Woo really wrote, directed, and edited this and did it with such slickness you wouldn’t even know a real person was behind the camera. The perfect marriage between drama and action, and good drama at that. His set pieces have so much depth and innovation, it’s actually crazy to watch. The entire hospital stretch is like an hour long action sequence that somehow doesn’t let up for a single second. That’s talent! Tony Leung was excellent of course but I really enjoyed Chow Yun-fat’s performance as Tequila. Teresa Mo was great as well. What an odyssey!

Ohhh it is actually that good!! Feeling super burnt out this week and needed something short and feel good. This was absolutely delightful and perfect. Picked up some new meditation techniques.
Hadn’t logged this yet - i think about this movie a lot and I get a rush of emotion every time i do. I don’t know if it’ll win best picture but it’d be my pick without a single doubt. Lot of good choices this year but this one left its mark on me for sure
