She’s everything, there’s no Ken (just Jones).

Ridley Scott is the master of atmosphere, always in awe of the vast and fully realized sets he creates with his crew, like they could swallow you up at any moment. Would do unforgivable things to see this on the big screen one day. Just as frightening, thrilling, and thematically rich 44 years later - the perfect combination of sci-fi and horror.

Oh god it’s SCALDING!!! I love how Verhoeven shoots his actors, I’ve never seen eyes look so beautiful, or so seductive.

Happy 40th anniversary to TWO of my favorite movies, this and Blade Runner! That’s crazy. I was lucky enough to rewatch this in theaters and chat about its genius with my pal @Tanner and the other wonderful lads at Bomb Squad Prods here !!

  • Spiderhead

    Spiderhead

    ★★½

The true achievement of this movie is that the actors all kept a straight face while talking about shit called ‘Darkenfloxx’

It’s okay, intriguing concept, fails big time to take its themes anywhere interesting in the third act but was a fine way to pass the time until then. Goofier than expected, which turned out to be a good thing. I want to see Chris Hemsworth put himself out there like this more, he was fun to watch!

    Escape from L.A.

I guess John Carpenter thinks this is better than Escape from New York and I’m going to have to disagree with him, but I see why he thinks that. This is a good movie, and has just as much biting satire. It’s just lacking the ubiquitous novelty that makes the first one so iconic and there’s not much you can do about that. I wonder what someone would think of this if they hadn’t seen Escape from New York prior, then.…

I feel absolutely mindfucked, well played Cronenberg. Gloriously gross and psychosexual and weird. I’m in love with the practical effects and threatening atmosphere, just unsure if I can confidently say the themes clicked in an exciting way beyond being a prompt and a piecemeal exploration. I almost don’t even want to rate it until a rewatch. All I know is that I need the steelbook NOW.

I came here to chew bubblegum and watch John Carpenter movies. And I’m all out of bubblegum.

Happy belated birthday John Carpenter! I’m still very early in my exploration of this legend’s filmography but I fall more and more in love with his work with each film. His humility and pure rebellious nature is clearly what makes him so effortlessly cool. The anti-authority messaging in his films is unapologetic and it’s the bluntness of his metaphors that has defined his…

The fact that The Matrix even exists is a miracle. It's a rare and momentous shift in culture when a creative mind, or in this case two minds, give birth to a new genre and change film forever in just two hours and sixteen minutes.

The Wachowskis' superpower here was not only their refusal to compromise a single part of their artistic vision, but their firm (and ahem correct) belief that cool shit and powerful storytelling are of equal importance. There…

    “What’s wrong with Broadway?”

HELL. FUCKING. YES. I’m so tempted to upgrade to Patron right now just so I can have Snake Plissken at the top of my review.

Plissken is a former Special Forces officer turned criminal who is offered a clean record in exchange for extracting the president from Manhattan. Unfortunately, in this 1997 dystopia, the entire island of Manhattan is a maximum security prison where factions of disheveled inmates haunt the fiery city ruins.

    John Carpenter is quickly…

Seeing Afterlife on Friday!! (Is anyone else going to this IMAX fan event??)

I almost wish I didn’t rewatch this? I loved it as a kid but visiting it now for probably the third time I felt a bit underwhelmed. I’m holding it at a 3.5 because of its cult status and undeniable impact (and baby Muncher/all special effects) - but the third act failed to hold my attention this time and I find Bill Murray’s character Venkman progressively (ironic…

I have so many things to watch before new releases/what y’all have suggested to me so naturally I watched my favorite movie of all time for the millionth time. A film that I’ve never reviewed in depth because I’m not even worthy of speaking about it. It’s untouchable. It’s perfect.

Also realized I hit 400 followers and just wanted to say I’m so thankful for this community and all of the friends I’ve made on here, I feel so lucky…
