Handling the Undead

Handling the Undead ★½

Handling the Undead has a neat take on the zombie concept at its core, more of a somber metaphor/meditation on making peace with loss and what we would do with the opportunity to see our loved ones again. Its visual language is gorgeous but it unfortunately moves about as slow as a zombie, the kind of punishing pacing that frustrates me because a film doesn’t need to carry itself in such a lethargic way to communicate something melancholic. Overall it is mostly a collection of moments, some haunting for sure, but ultimately expected and underwhelming. Renate Reinsve is innocent though. When I said we needed a new version of Pet Sematary this isn’t what I meant!
