Being the Ricardos 2021
I saw the critiques a bit more on a second viewing - and I did feel like it took a bit longer to really “get going” - but what can I say? This thing just really works for me, and it wins me over every time. Maybe it’s because I Love Lucy was such a big part of my life growing up, or maybe it’s because I’m just such a sucker for stories that take us “behind-the-scenes” of showbiz. Whatever the case, I genuinely enjoy this one, and I think Kidman and Bardem absolutely knock it out of the PARK.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie 2021
Totally forgot to log this yesterday, but I had a lot of fun! The songs are largely solid, if sometimes repetitive (although the opening number “Don’t Even Know It” is a BANGER), and it definitely runs a bit long, but the charming cast elevates the film immensely, with Harwood, Lancashire, and Patel serving as the standouts. It’s just so full of life and love and some stellar LGBTQ+ representation (especially thanks to new song “This Was Me,” which reverentially recreates queer resilience in the 80s amidst the AIDS epidemic). What a year for musicals this is 🥳
