Angels in America 2003
“i try to tighten my heart into a knot, a snarl, i try to learn to live dead, just numb, but then i see someone i want, and it's like a nail, like a hot spike right through my chest, and i know i’m losing.”
i first learned what AIDS was in my eighth grade health class, during a unit on STDs. we learned its history, its symptoms, its causes, its prognosis, and who it affected - “homosexuals and addicts.”…

The Times of Harvey Milk 1984
really sad to realize that we’re still fighting a lot of the same fights we were fighting 46 years ago. the more things change, the more they really do stay the same i guess - the work never stops.
anyway i love harvey milk and i love being queer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I'm a Cheerleader 1999

But I'm a Cheerleader 1999

Blue Jean 2022
An truly dynamite debut - makes familiar subject matter feel fresh again thanks to Georgia Oakley’s crisp and clear artistic vision (the direction and shot composition in this are genuinely breathtaking) and Rosy McEwen’s frankly perfect performance, undeniably one of the best of the year so far.

Lingua Franca 2019
I love Isabel Sandoval and the way she sees the world so so so much. When I first watched this film during the pandemic, I was still in the closet, and lemme just say it hits a lot harder after one year on HRT and one year of experiencing life, love, and ~everything else~ as a trans woman. I love that Isabel has total tonal control over the film at all times (as the star, writer, director, producer, and editor)…

Monica 2022
Monica is a marvel. Few films have so compassionately captured the everyday exhaustion of a trans existence, and that’s while simultaneously surveying the storminess of familial relations post-transition with striking sincerity. As our lead, Trace Lysette is luminous - a revelation. If there’s any justice, her tender, towering turn will have a place in this year’s awards race.
