Better than Dumbo, the last entry in the “Danny DeVito stars in a Disney movie centered around a circus” Cinematic Universe... but just barely.

Howl's Moving Castle 2004
As visually impressive as any other film from Miyazaki, but the narrative felt far more chaotic/far less involving than what I’ve come to expect thus far. I totally empathize with Miyazaki’s emotions towards the Iraq War, but something was still lost in translation here, and I can’t quite put my finger on what it was 🤔
That being said, I would absolutely DIE for Calcifer.

Princess Mononoke 1997
I will NOT crush on Ashitaka, I will NOT crush on Ashitaka, I will NOT-
(The best Ghibli I’ve seen yet!!! Staggering, suspenseful, sincere, etc etc etc!!!)

The Wind Rises 2013
“The wind is rising. We must try to live.”
The first film from Ghibli/Miyazaki that I outright adore rather than just admire. Though I did enjoy Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, I sometimes struggled to be as emotionally engaged in those stories as I desired, mostly due to their aimlessness or artistic abstractness. By comparison, The Wind Rises had a plot that was much more palatable and as a result, I connected with the character of Jiro almost instantly…

Boys State 2020
STEVEN GARZA AND RENÉ OTERO COME SAVE AMERICAN POLITICS PLEASE
(This was equal parts haunting and hopeful and I’m both fascinated by and fearful of the next generation’s impact on government in years to come)

Drop Dead Gorgeous 1999
“They’ll never let you perform naked, I asked.”
Lol uh literally the best cast ensemble of all time ???
My new life goal is to find a way to get Kirstie Alley, Amy Adams, Allison Janney, Kirsten Dunst, Ellen Barkin, and Denise Richards retroactive Oscars for their work here. I will not REST until these wrongs are RIGHTED.

Spree 2020
Throw American Psycho, Nerve, Nightcrawler, and... Eighth Grade (?!) into a blender and you get... Spree.
Occasional lags in pacing and mixed messaging aside, this is pretty much a terrifically tense and terrifying thrill ride from start to finish that feels EERILY applicable to our modern-day mesmerization with social media and influencer culture. All the twists and turns will most definitely keep you on your toes for the swift 92-minute runtime.
Joe Keery is completely CHILLING and honestly deserves so much more work after this. Kinda crazy how Nancy and Steve have given two of the best performances from any actors all year ???

Magic Camp 2020
Sincerely shocked that this was ever intended for theatrical release even in spite of the ~Tambor of it all~ simply because it’s directed and written exactly like a Disney Channel Original Movie lol ?
