In one word, outstanding. Tells a more complete and commoving story in four minutes than most films do in 2+ hours. Between this and If Anything Happens I Love You, Netflix has basically got that Best Animated Short Film Oscar on lock.

Honest to God unlike ANYTHING I’ve ever seen before. I wasn’t sure what I was in for with the first few episodes, but once I started riding Coel’s rhythm, I was HOOKED. Reminded me so much of Promising Young Woman in how it subversively tackles the subject matter of sexual assault in such an innovative and intricate way that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole way through, with each episode here more unpredictable than the last.…

  • News of the World

    News of the World

    ★★★½

Though News of the World’s storytelling may be straightforward, its sincerity is soothing nonetheless, and the compelling companionship between stars Tom Hanks and Helena Zengel is more than enough to earn our engagement throughout their torturous trek across a post-war America.

Honestly, this is Kidman’s finest hour, and the fact that she was snubbed for an Oscar nod (and a WIN) for what is most likely her best work to date is... unforgivable.

Also, I adore that this was basically the precursor to I, Tonya. This style of storytelling is exactly what I like to see in cinema, and I can’t imagine a better way for either story to convey all the complexities of their lead characters without this tongue-in-cheek, mockumentary approach. Couldn’t think of a better way to capture the chaotic absurdity of each true-life tale.

A miracle of a movie tbh??? One of those times where you watch something and go “Wow this was Made For Me™” so that probably influences my praise a tad, but personal taste aside... this thing is a TRIUMPH. Rachel Sennott is gonna be a star, period, and this is easily one of the most captivating comedic performances I’ve seen in years. Emma Seligman is a towering talent behind the camera - capturing one of the most chaotic cinematic settings…

Pretty sure I would’ve been obsessed with this like 10-15 years ago but now it was kind of exhausting... oh well! Kids will eat it up! Every generation deserves their Spy Kids/Sharkboy and Lavagirl!

    Pedro Pascal innocent!

Just horrifically haunting and harrowing - up there with Blue Valentine as the hardest watch I’ve had all year. Quite literally shaken to my core with very, very little to say at the moment. Surely some of Steve McQueen’s best work, and near-career-highs for Fassbender and Mulligan. Not gonna be getting this one off my mind anytime soon.
