Chernobyl 2019
“What is the cost of lies? It’s not that we’ll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all.”
Fervently directed, intensely edited, and masterfully written, Chernobyl is a brutally horrific yet instantly effective epic underscored by some of the most bitingly relevant social criticism on the price of misinformation and governmental corruption I’ve ever seen.

“She’s rich, but still nice.”
“Not ‘rich, but still nice.’ She’s nice because she’s rich. Hell, if I had all this money, I’d be nice too!”Watching this movie with my thriller-adoring mother and hearing her gasp every two minutes is truly the best (belated) Christmas gift I could ever receive

Parasite 2019
Parasite is a multi-genre masterwork, consistently escaping any categorization as its plot twists and turns and transforms like a Rubix cube, continually keeping both its protagonists and its audience on an uneven yet endlessly entertaining ground with a steady blend of satirical comedy, adrenalizing thrills, and sheer horror.
With its trailer set to debut tomorrow, I remain anxious to see how Neon decides to promote this film, as I went in without even the faintest knowledge of a simple logline,…

My Horse Girl™ sister decided to sit down and watch this with me tonight but she was INCREDIBLY distraught after THAT scene and promptly left the living room, never to return

The Shawshank Redemption 1994
Simultaneously heartbreaking and uplifting, The Shawshank Redemption is a breathtaking ode to the power of hope, and it remains one of my favorite films of all time. Movies like this don’t come around that often, and it absolutely deserves all the praise it’s received in the past two decades. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman (flexing his narrator muscles) are absolutely divine.
(P.S. This is like my 10th watch and I still can’t handle the “Brooks Was Here” scene.)

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003
Normally never watch the Middle-Earth movies outside of a marathon, but since I’ve been on a Best Picture binge as of late (and haven’t watched this in its entirety for a good 4-5 years), I decided to give it a go and see how well it holds up on its own...
AND SURPRISE SURPRISE, IT’S STILL SPECTACULAR!!!
