    jane campion's misunderstood masterpiece, in the cut, is a film interested in fragmentation- narratively, visually, and thematically. the editing is quick- frantically cutting from shot to shot in a matter of seconds to communicate the paranoia of the protagonist, many frames are blurred at the edges like the flimsy pages of a paperback book stained by water, the progression of the narrative is choppy and inconsistent, scenes end before conversations are finished, victims of murder…

    am i just bitter that i'm not making a feature film produced by darren aronofsky like this kid.... maybe? but also it's just hilarious to me that THIS is the film that got him that deal. seriously, what the fuck is this? yeah he was in highschool when he made it so of course it's shallow and his attempts at philosophical introspection come across as dumb, juvenile, and meaningless, but even then it's just embarrassing. most student films aren't good.…
