a monotone, real-life journey in a faded bubblegum pink world on breaking generational patterns and overcoming a multitude of traumas. wowowowowowowoow
was confused by the low ratings until i realized the director isn’t a fan favorite; what about separating the art from the artist? easy 4.5 stars

Mysterious Skin 2004
a film many silently resonate with; a topic most directors wouldn’t go near. this put complex feelings into words. it’s heavy, vulnerable, repulsive, and real. had me staring numbly at the screen the entire time until i bawled during the credits. the beauty of the ugly: talking about things when you’re ready and realizing you’re not the only one.

Barbie 2023
the message of female empowerment was incredibly special, and having done this through the beauty standard Barbie doll was a great take. i cried at “take my hands, close your eyes, now feel,” so i have a high appreciation for parts of this film. but felt a bit surface level and demeaning towards men at times, which is unfortunate for an equality movie. I’M STILL HEAVILY INSPIRED BY GRETA (!!!!)
